The benefit of plugin alliance is that they have a dual system of subscription and ownership. I phased waves out 15 years ago, replacing most options with plugin alliance - another brand with a strange way of doing things, but at least PA are above board.

The pirate gets the product for free AND a more stable solution - while the honest consumer gets sucked into a greedy scheme and suffers from an unstable product.

My point is that it's fucked up when the pirate gets a better service.

I would never pirate any software cause I don't believe in that.

They make it seem like it's a one time purchase, where in reality it's a scheme to get you hooked for a yearly payment.Ĭompanies like Adobe make sure you realize what you're buying is a yearly license to use the software, Waves make sure you don't. Waves' store is not designed in a transparent and consumer friendly way. I know what Waves is doing is technically legal, and I know that when you purchase a plugin you're never supposed to own it and all it's future versions. Waves' business model makes piracy somehow more convenient - you get the whole package without any issues.** and if I want my issues fixed the supplier is like "gib dolla". I might get the product, but the updates are limited, and instead of making my life easy and fair (cause I fucking paid) the supplier is the source of the issues I suffer from.

That's literally the reason I buy software. I get the product and I get updates, and if I encounter an issue I get support from the supplier of said product. I believe in paying for what I use, because when I pay for it, it's fair. How is this even a thing? I own a lot of software and never felt so much contempt towards the consumer.

In Waves' case they make it seem like you purchase a product that's yours for ever - but then it becomes out of date and useless on modern software after a year or two - forcing you to pay up again.Īnd to top it all, if you want your license to be available on two machines at the same time (like every other software) you need to pay for the update plan. When you make the purchase, you know that it's a monthly / yearly payment. I would much rather pay twice as much for the plugins and own them forever, than this scammy BS.You could compare it to Adobe's business model but at least you know what you're getting. I haven't heard of a single software company that shits on it's consumers like this. They want the software, they see the price tag - they buy it.Īt this point, I have realized that I don't want to be so dependent on a company that takes advantage of their consumers. Most first time consumers (like myself) don't really think about what the update plan is.

When you make a purchase the store is designed like you buy each product and own it. Just so it would work. This is practically a scam, since when do I need to pay for something I already own just so it would work again? And the most aggravating thing is that in one year, if I want my stuff to work I have a choice - update my machine's OS and pay another 240$ - or stay with my outdated OS for ever. I have a new set up, and because it involves a new OS - I need to update the plugins to V13.Problem is I don't have my update plan subscription anymore (cause it expires after a year). So in order to update my plugins - I need to pay 240$ for the update plan.Ģ40 fucking dollars.

I think the software is amazing and I'm totally dependent on it as a producer / engineer.Although - I feel like Waves' treatment of their consumers is greedy and not transparent.I never really thought it would bother me that much, but now I feel like Waves is taking advantage of me.I bought the Diamond pack plus some single plugins. I use Waves software on a daily, on literally every project. TL DR - a Karen rant about Wave's transparency about 'owning' your software.
